AI is everywhere. There is so much technological advancement today. Kids these days can’t relate to the way people my age lived their lives when we were younger. It’s amazing what we can do with tech these days. As someone who has always been a fan of gadgets and tech, I am always curious about these things. I love seeing how far tech can take us to make life better. But sometimes, things that are being developed may result in more bad than good.
There are so many examples of how AI can have good and bad points. One is how people have complained about how AI could take away jobs from so many. There are already jobs that are being taken over by AI these days for the sake of making things "easier." As this develops, more and more people might lose jobs in the process. Yes, some jobs can open up on the side of AI. But we know not all the people who will lose their jobs because of it can qualify for those alternatives. It’s a complicated web that people need to figure a way out of. I don’t know how much it makes things easier offsets how much it becomes worse.
Plus, replacing people with AI is not always a good thing. For an introvert like me, not needing to talk to another person can be easier. But sometimes, there are some issues that an AI cannot answer. Some things go beyond programming. Sometimes you need to talk to another human being to get those answers. I have had instances of discussing customer service issues with an AI. The conversation kept going in circles because the AI could not answer my concerns. It was so frustrating!
Being at its developmental stages, there is also the issue of how AI is still flawed. I have seen so many people reacting to wrong answers from AI language learning models. Some wrong answers were laughable, some were too crazy to make sense. Some give too much information that goes beyond what should be safe to share online.
Yes, it’s easier to access information and get service, but how does it ensure that what we get from it is true? I am also concerned with AI in the healthcare sector since it deals with people’s lives. Given how flawed it can still be, that is a dangerous thing to risk using. Who is overseeing this technology? Who is overseeing this tech to make sure that they are getting it right?
Another thing that should be overseen is how AI is being used to create copies of people (and their voices). I have seen too many of these that look realistic enough to fool people if they are not discerning enough. This is a dangerous technology to have. While some aspects of it may be useful, it is still a dangerous tool to have if it is in the wrong hands. It could lead to misinformation, cyberbullying, and other forms of cybercrime.
As a music fan, I am alarmed to see how the industry uses AI to create “cyber” singers/performers. Seeing them marketed in the same way as real-life artists is scary. It’s alarming how music labels have said this is a more cost-effective way to make music. It sounds like it could be the way the industry will move in the future.
Apart from that, I have already heard songs using a different singer's voice using AI. The voices sound exactly like the real singers. I don’t mind how the industry uses tech to create music itself, but replacing everything with AI is not the way to go. At least not for me. I would still like the human touch or connection to the art I appreciate, particularly with music.
Again, I am not against AI and the developments it brings. It is bound to change the way we live no matter how we try to stop it. While there are a lot of advancements that will make our lives easier, we all need to accept that it is not perfect. We need to realize the dangers that it also brings into our lives. The powers that be have to regulate this to ensure that the use is in the right way.
I can't help but wonder how everyone else feels about AI. Are people excited, skeptical, scared, or concerned? Right now, I am a mix of excited and concerned. It can help, but there needs to be something done to make sure people use it the right way. I hope that we do not lose the human touch in several things that AI aims to replace. We need to be aware of what needs the tech-human balance. Things need to work together to make things convenient for everyone. Not only convenient but also doing so without harming anyone else.
I hope that soon, we can find a way to make things like this work for the better, and not worse.
